Devo 008 | Social Distancing Redefined

Social distancing or physical distancing is defined as a public health safety intervention to help reduce the transmission of a communicable disease. Its goal is to limit exposure to infectious bacteria and viruses during a communicable disease outbreak. It involves minimizing exposure to infected individuals by avoiding large public gathering venues, adhering to spacing requirements in the workplace, and following proper personal hygiene practices.

Upon reading this, a different angle prompted my heart to this realisation.

At this time where everybody is “infected” or affected (I know I am) in some or in all aspects—emotionally, mentally, physically & spiritually, we probably need social media distancing to a certain degree only we can identify, scratch that, only God can identify.

Although now is definitely an opportunity to spend quality time with family & connect with friends, to be updated with the news & to be informed is crucial & that you can use social media as a tool for the good…

I believe it is vital that we “lockdown” once in a while & set a time to connect to our Source. A time where God can meet us wherever we stand in our lives right now. A time to reflect. Whether it has something to do with Covid-19 or any disease that is trying to penetrate our minds & hearts.

If I were to tweak the definition of social distancing in connection to this, it would go…

SOCIAL MEDIA DISTANCING or physical distancing is defined as a public HEALTH (HEART, MIND, SOUL, BODY) SAFETY INTERVENTION to help reduce the transmission of a communicable disease. Its goal is to LIMIT EXPOSURE to infectious bacteria and viruses from PEOPLE AFFECTED (we all are) during a communicable disease outbreak resulting to panic, worry, depression, being critical, ranting & etc. It involves minimizing exposure to infected individuals by avoiding negative conversations, adhering to spacing requirements following proper personal hygiene or disinfecting practices like praying & communicating with God, reading His word, lifting Him up through worship & etc.

Besides Covid-19, look around, there is another outbreak. We are facing another pandemic unseen that hits to the core & if left unchecked, we might get the virus, worse, infect others.

Pause & do a heart check.

If we want to be a light, we need to charge & stay connected to the Source. And we can only do so much to help when we are affected or infected. Nobody nor an encouraging post on social media, such as this, can cleanse our hearts & minds like God can.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” 1 John 14:27

“Agree with God, and be at peace; thereby good will come to you. Receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.” Job 22:21-22

Truly,

Tara
